Standing Up for What’s Right: Cole Reaches Settlement with NH Department of Safety
Mar 4, 2026

The New England Police Benevolent Association (NEPBA) is proud to recognize the strength and perseverance of Danielle Cole, a member of NEPBA Local 219 – the New Hampshire State Law Enforcement Supervisors Union, following the resolution of a workplace harassment and retaliation lawsuit against the New Hampshire Department of Safety.
The State of New Hampshire recently agreed to a $200,000 settlement to resolve the case brought by Cole, a former Deputy State Fire Marshal and longtime member of the law enforcement community. Cole filed the lawsuit after alleging that she experienced sexual harassment in the workplace and later faced retaliation after reporting the misconduct.
Throughout the process, Cole remained committed to standing up for herself and for the professional standards expected within public safety agencies. Her decision to speak out reflects the courage required to challenge inappropriate conduct and reinforces the importance of accountability in the workplace.
As a member of NEPBA Local 219, Cole represents the many dedicated supervisors and leaders who serve the people of New Hampshire with professionalism and integrity. The New England Police Benevolent Association is proud to stand alongside members like Danielle who uphold the values of leadership, fairness, and respect within the law enforcement profession.
“This outcome is an important reminder that no one in our profession should have to endure harassment or retaliation for doing the right thing,” said Steve Arnold, NEPBA's State Director of New Hampshire. “Our members deserve safe, professional workplaces, and the NEPBA will always stand behind those who have the courage to stand up for themselves and their fellow officers.”
The NEPBA represents more than 5,000 law enforcement professionals across New England, including supervisors, patrol officers, corrections officers, dispatchers, and specialized units. Through strong advocacy, legal support, and representation, the organization remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of its members.
NEPBA congratulates Danielle Cole on her perseverance and thanks her for her continued commitment to integrity and leadership within the law enforcement community.
