NEPBA Responds to Governor Healey’s Debate Remarks: Our Members Will Not Be Overlooked
Oct 8, 2026

During tonight’s gubernatorial debate, Governor Maura Healey proudly pointed to her endorsements from what she described as the three largest law enforcement unions in Massachusetts.
But there is something Governor Healey should understand: The voices of Massachusetts law enforcement do not begin and end with three organizations.
The New England Police Benevolent Association represents thousands of dedicated law enforcement professionals throughout Massachusetts and across New England. Our members put on the uniform every day, protect their communities, make extraordinary sacrifices, and deserve to have their voices heard at every level of government.
Our members are not an afterthought. Our organization is not an afterthought. And our voice will not be diminished by a political talking point. An endorsement from three organizations does not constitute an endorsement from the entirety of Massachusetts law enforcement. Every union has the right to make its own decisions, but no organization has the exclusive authority to speak for the men and women who serve across the Commonwealth.
The NEPBA has formally endorsed Mike Minogue for Governor of Massachusetts, and we unequivocally reaffirm that endorsement. Our decision was made independently, and it remains unchanged.
We do not measure the importance of a law enforcement organization solely by its size or by the political recognition it receives. We measure our work by our commitment to representation, our willingness to defend our members, and our determination to ensure their concerns are never ignored.
Later this month, the NEPBA is proud to host an evening with Mike Minogue at our Central Massachusetts office in Sterling. This event will provide our members and their families an opportunity to engage directly with him and discuss the issues affecting law enforcement and public safety.
Members and their families who would like additional information about the event may email: contact@nepba.org.
The NEPBA does not need a mention on a debate stage to validate our standing in law enforcement. Our members, our representation, and our record speak for themselves.
And we intend to make certain their voices continue to be heard.
