In Memoriam: Captain Anthony DeFrancesco

It is with profound sadness that the New England Police Benevolent Association mourns the passing of Captain Anthony “Tony” DeFrancesco of the Somersworth Police Department.
Tony was far more than a member of the NEPBA family. He was a close friend, a trusted colleague, a former Local President, and a tireless advocate for the men and women he served alongside. He believed deeply in the importance of standing up for his fellow officers, and throughout his involvement with the NEPBA, he did exactly that; with loyalty, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to those around him.
Tony brought those same qualities to his career with the Somersworth Police Department. His dedication to his profession and his community was evident throughout his years of service, culminating in his well-earned promotion to Captain earlier this year.
We are especially grateful that we had the opportunity to recognize Tony earlier this year with an NEPBA Meritorious Service Award. At the time, it was an opportunity to celebrate his accomplishments, his leadership, and his promotion to Captain. Today, that recognition carries an even deeper meaning. We were able to tell Tony, while he was with us, just how much his service, friendship, and advocacy meant to this organization.
Tony fought his battle with the same strength and courage that defined the way he lived and served. His loss will be felt deeply, not only within the Somersworth Police Department, but throughout the entire NEPBA family and by the countless people fortunate enough to call him a friend.
On behalf of our leadership, representatives, and more than 5,000 members across New England, we extend our deepest condolences to Tony’s family, his brothers and sisters at the Somersworth Police Department, and everyone whose life was made better by knowing him.
We will remember Tony not simply for the rank he earned or the positions he held, but for the kind of man he was: loyal, dedicated, courageous, and always willing to stand beside others when they needed him.
Rest easy, Captain. Your friendship will be missed, your service will be remembered, and your legacy will remain a part of the NEPBA for years to come.
