Rhode Island Sheriffs’ Right to Vote

June 15, 2021

Today, Council 94 appeared in courtroom 16 at Providence Superior Court in an attempt to stop the men and women of the RI Division of Sheriffs from having an election to determine their future union representation.  The NEPBA appeared in front of Justice Darigan to defend the rights of Rhode Island’s Deputy Sheriffs and was, once again, successful.  Council 94 does not want an election to take place and has fought against the right of Deputy Sheriffs to have a say in their future.  In front of the Labor Board, Council 94 argued that an election should not take place because they believed that the State of Rhode Island Master Contract never expired.  The NEPBA cited legal precedent and proved Council 94 wrong and the Labor Board agreed.  Council 94 then entered into an agreement governing the parameters of the election process that the Division is currently undergoing.  Council 94 signed this agreement.   Following this agreement however, Council 94 sought, in Superior Court, to stop the process which they were a party to.

The NEPBA did not allow that to happen.  The NEPBA has fought hard for and represented the rights and interests of Rhode Island’s Deputy Sheriffs in a way that the Division members are not used to…..  They WIN!  Council 94 has not had a single victory against the NEPBA.

After this election, NEPBA will continue to fight for your rights and battle to make sure that deputies are represented with strength, honor and honesty.

Support NEPBA!  They have a track record of success and will bring that success to Rhode Island’s Deputy Sheriffs!
