NEPBA OPPOSES GIC PREMIUM CONTRIBUTION INCREASE IN GOVERNOR’S BUDGET
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 25, 2025
The New England Police Benevolent Association will steadfastly oppose the increase in the GIC premium contributions for state employees, including our members in the Department of Corrections, Massachusetts Port Authority, University of Massachusetts system, and any effected municipality as set forth in Governor Healey’s recently filed FY26 State Budget (HB1).
By taking out the long-standing provision that had assured that state employees hired before 2003 would see their contribution rate remain at 20%, the Governor has effectively instituted a pay cut for these employees.
The budgetary stealth of hand was done with little public dialogue but that will change going forward.
The NEPBA will work to make sure that the House and Senate remedy this issue and that the effected employees will be protected and made whole.
