MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS CAPTAINS TAKE NO CONFIDENCE VOTE IN DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION LEADERSHIP

NEPBA Local 200 represents the 74 Captains of the Massachusetts Department of Correction.  Captains, within the Department of Correction are the highest-ranking uniformed staff, who all have come up the ranks from Officer, to Sergeant, to Lieutenant, to Captain.

Captains work as Shift Commanders at all major facilities on every shift, 24 hours a day. They are the highest-ranking staff member on site 16 out of 21 shifts a week.  This position allows them to observe the Department through an unobscured lens, both up and down the ranks.

The union conducted a vote of all Captains statewide, with 95% of voters voting no confidence in the Department of Corrections Executive Leadership Team.   The union is concerned with the continued lack of leadership, direction, and communication within the Department.   The union feels it is time for a change of direction, a true refocusing on staff safety, and a commitment to making the prisons a better place for all involved.
