GOVERNOR BAKER SIGNS HB 4359 AUTHORIZING FULL RETIREMENT BENEFITS FOR NEPBA MEMBER

HB4359 – Rep. Vieira, David (R) – An Act relative to the disability retirement of Jared MacDonald, a police officer in the town of Bourne

Action: 09/16/16 – G – Signed by the Governor

NEPBA Legislative Director Paul Larkham is pleased to inform our membership that a bill sponsored by Rep. David T. Vieira (R) – HB 4359 has been signed by the Governor.  The bill entitles Officer Jared MacDonald full disability and retirement benefits.

MacDonald was shot on February 5, 2015 in Bourne, Mass as he was responding to a call for a car fire, and shots fired. The suspect had shot two women in a condo, before turning his weapon on police.

New England Police Benevolent Association Legislative Director Paul Larkham stated, “when I approached the Rep about the filing of this bill, he couldn’t have been more accommodating, promising to see it signed before end of the session. In addition to Rep Viera, every Legislator I approached seeking support of this bill enthusiastically promised to do so. It is nice the Town and Legislature have come through and done the right thing for Jared”.
